| January 27th, 2012 by Admin Stock car racing is the second most-watched sports in the US after football, with the 2009 Daytona 500 expected to draw some seventeen million TV viewers. And this has undoubtedly fueled the market for used stock cars for sale, for those who want to become the next Dale Earnhardt. But before going out to choose a race car, try and find a knowledgeable individual to accompany you. |
One good way to find stock cars for sale is by visiting race tracks and finding owners selling their cars. Before you finalize a deal, however, watch how the car races. Talk with other racers who have driven against the car you are eyeing about its past performance. But also keep in mind that just because a particular car has been a consistent winner or loser in the past does not mean it would continue this record once you are racing it. Also ask around to see if the car has been in any serious accidents, which could be an indication of its condition.
Examine your chosen car very closely. One important thing to look out for is the chassis. Every race car uses two framerails as the base for the chassis. If the framerails are straight, then almost anything on the car can be repaired. But if the framerails are bent, then it may be difficult, if not impossible, to make the car race-worthy again. So make sure to look under the car to see if the framerails are straight and don’t show signs of damage. If you find a metal patch welded to the framerail, it is an indication that the rail has been straightened and you should be more careful when making your decision to buy.
If the car has been built by a professional chassis builder, once you have bought the car, it may simply be best to bring it back to the builder for an examination. This would enable him to tell you exactly what you need to return the car to first-rate racing condition.
You should also look at how the team treats the car. Examine the valve covers of the engine. If the head is clean and free of sludge, this is an indication that the team behind the car changes the oil regularly. Also note if the team is keeping the car clean, another indicator that they are taking pains in maintaining the car in good working order.
But the most important thing to keep in mind when you are picking used stock cars for sale: remember that you are planning to use the car for racing, and if it is not in tip-top shape, then a mishap could cost you your life.
